Financials, Wells, Roads Discussed In Clear Lake

Feedback from MnDOT and the city’s third quarter financial were all part of Monday’s short, 55-minute meeting in Clear Lake.

MnDOT Road Project
Clerk Kari Mechtel presented council with a letter she received from Claudia Dumont at MnDOT in regards to scheduled improvements to Hwy. 24 through the City of Clear Lake. In the letter, Dumont says MnDOT plans to resurface Hwy. 24 from Hwy. 10 to I-94 and will improve sidewalks, curb & gutter as needed and install ADA compliant pedestrian ramps and improvements at the intersection of Hwy. 10 & 24.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2018.

Mechtel said the letter went on to ask council for any feedback they might have regarding roadway issues or concerns and include any aging utility concerns or potential improvements that may have an impact on the project.

Water & Sewer
City Engineer Keith Yapp and Water Supply and Treatment Engineer Kurt Johnson presented a scope of services for investigation of the new water supply.

Johnson provided council with the process of drilling test wells.  Over the past year, the maintenance department has gathered water samples of already established wells within the area.  Yapp said all information that has been received will be very helpful in determining where to drill the test wells.

Yapp suggested council give Stantec the go ahead to move forward with the provided schedule.

Member Dale Powers said  he would like to know actual costs for drilling the test wells.  After further discussion, it was decided to schedule a special council meeting Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. to review final numbers for the test wells.
