Jimmy’s Pizza in Becker hosted a noteworthy event Monday evening as part of Becker Baptist Church’s championing of family values.

 

The event was called, Dad & Daughter Date Night and it ran from 5:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the famous local restaurant.

 

Becker Baptist recognizes that it’s sometimes hard for fathers to give their daughters that special, one-on-one time that she so deserves and craves. So the church comprised the fun event for all daddies and daughters of the community — not just those fathers and daughters who attend the Baptist Church.

 

The young ladies received a flower and a love note from their dads as they entered the establishment and were provided some conversation starters to help initiate dialogue. Both parties then enjoyed a wonderful buffet-style dinner that cost seniors $7.99, kids ages 12 and over $8.95, kids aged 7-11 $5.85 and kids aged 3-6 $3.85. Soda cost everyone $1.69.

 

Jim Schermer and his daughter, 11-year-old Isabella attended the event because Jim felt it was important for he and his daughter to spend a little time alone — just the two of them.

 

“This is nice because I can get her away from the chaos at home and from her brother, too,” he said.

 

Jim said Isabella asked him for the date and knew she would be too hard to turn down.

 

“She heard about this through The Hub and wanted to bring me out on a date,” he said. “how could someone say ‘no’ to that?”

 

Another father/daughter duo enjoying the meal and conversation were Ben Gareis and his 13-year-old daughter, Hannah.

 

“I asked her if she’d like to go and she said, ‘sure’,” said Ben. “We both thought it would be fun to spend some time alone.”

 

Hannah was grateful her dad said, “yes” since “it’s hard to have it just be he and me when we are always so busy with sports and stuff,” she said.

 

“This is nice because we can just relax, rest and chat,” she added.

 

Hannah is also a frequent visitor to the church’s Hub gathering spot.

 

Forty-two dads and daughters attended the event Monday and the church had up to 14 volunteers who made the date night special by serving, decorating and cleaning up.
