Cuteness abounded at the Becker Community Center last Friday.
Dozens of local fathers topped off the start to their weekends with the sweetest dates in town: their daughters. The eighth annual BCC Father Daughter Dance was once again a smashing success as grown-ups and kids gathered on the floor of the gymnasium from 6-8:30 p.m.
Community Center Program Supervisor Jessica Huettl said 175 tickets were sold and were gone in 20 days.
“The 2016 event was just as wonderful as it has been in the past,” she said. “The dads and daughters made the night memorable with their attire,
corsages, dancing and singing/dancing to the song from the Frozen movie ‘Let it Go’.”
The galant evening began with a delicious cheesy pasta bake meal at 6 p.m.The dinner also featured Italian meatballs, dinner rolls, cookies and beverages.
At around 7 p.m., Dean Downs of Dean-O-Mite Entertainment provided the musical entertainment for the night. DJ Downs also held contests and gave away beads for the kids to wear as part of their glamorous wardrobe.
Kiddie cocktails were also served and coloring sheets were dispersed for those who didn’t feel like tripping the light fantastic. A photo booth was also part of the festivities where daughters could pose with their fathers and decide whether they wanted a picture emailed to them the following week. The professionally-photographed pictures were provided by MG Photography.
The event cost $12 per person when reserved by the end of January and was $14 at the door. Formal attire was optional, but most dads donned their best suits and ties while the little ladies wore their prettiest outfits. All ages of daughters and granddaughters were welcome with most of the children near or under the age of 10.
Les Goeman of St. Paul trekked all the way to Becker where his daughter, Aliyah (10) lives and goes to school. It was he and his daughter’s third time attending the event and Goeman feels “it’s important to do this with her every year I can.”
Todd Knute of Becker showed up for he and his daughter’s (Alli, 4-years-old) fourth year in a row and says the event is “our tradition.”
“Alli loves coming for the food and fun and it’s special for me and her to be together,” said Knute. “She’s really happy to see her friends, too.”
The jam-packed gymnasium had tables decorated and set up in a Valentine’s theme in full color of the holiday. This wonderful evening out is held to help dads and other father figures reconnect with daughters and granddaughters, helping to build strong positive relationships now and in the future. Lots of fun memories are achieved that is guaranteed to last a lifetime.
With the ever-increasing surplus of technological devices and social media websites, it’s gratifying to see a single night dedicated to the bonding of a father and a daughter. Quality time with family is so rare these days and the BCC’s annual Father/Daughter dance is one of many possibilities for families to connect in “cute” ways.
