Faith Lutheran Brings Last Supper To Life

More than 250 people attended a re-enactment of the Last Supper last Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church. The dramatization brought to life the events of the last hours of Jesus and his disciples.

The service began with fifth and sixth grade GRAPPLE students from FLC  setting the table with foods for a Seder meal. Each food symbolized a different part of the Passover story, so students explained the meaning for each one as it was placed on the table.

James Hintermeister, who played Jesus and led the meal, also washed the feet of his disciples and warned that one of them would betray him.

After hearing of what would soon be happening, each of the 12 apostles stood and shared their thoughts as to why they questioned themselves as the one who might betray Jesus. Just like the original disciples, each of the men reflected unique personalities; some quiet and thoughtful, others passionate and fiery.

Playing the parts of the twelve disciples were Carter Aanenson, Brad Bolton, Gregg Engdahl, John Falenschek, Eric Graftaas, Dan Haag, Chris Harmoning, Sam Hintermeister, Nathan Oliver, Aaron Olmscheid, Ben Pany and Terry Wilson.

Throughout the production, music was provided by The Faithful Five. Singing five different songs ranging from How Beautiful to Is It I?, the voices of Katy Aanenson, Tom Keller, Mike Johnson, Ruth Johnson and Vickie Scheele enhanced the message of the disciples and added to their outpouring of emotions.

At the end of the service, 13 fourth and fifth grade students then participated in their first communion.

Church members went all out in supporting the production of the Living Last Supper by bringing in props to help depict the table setting and hand sewing costumes for the thirteen performers.

“We hope to offer the Living Last Supper to the community again next year,” said Sue Doering, music coordinator at Faith. “Experiencing this story through music and drama makes it so meaningful for everyone.”
