Events And Services For Veterans Planned

A series of celebrations and events to benefit area veterans will be taking place over the next few weeks, according to Sherburne County Veterans Services Officer Gene Graff.

Sat., Sept.6, a program will be held at Becker City Park in honor of Korean War veterans.  The event is titled “Remembering the Forgotten War,” and is being sponsored by the Becker chapter of the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon organization.
 
The program will begin with the Presentation of the Colors at 10:50 a.m., with a luncheon to follow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  At that time, a group of guest speakers will address the audience.  The first 80 veterans in attendance will also receive a copy of the book “Korea Reborn: A Grateful Nation.”  The event is open to all military veterans and their families, Graff said.

Benefits Open House
Military veterans are invited to an open house at the Becker American Legion Post 193 building at 12155 Hancock St. Tue., Sept. 16 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. where information about Veterans Administration healthcare and extended care benefits will be provided.
 
Staff from the Sherburne County Veterans Services office and the St. Cloud VA Healthcare Systems Voluntary Services division will be present to answer questions and provide information about available health care for veterans.
 
A light lunch will also be served.
 
Flu Vaccinations
A program of free flu vaccinations will be available next month for veterans currently receiving VA health care at the St. Cloud, Minneapolis and Ramsey VA Medical Centers.
 
Locations are: Tue., Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Zimmerman American Legion, and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Elk River American Legion.  Wed., Sept. 24, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Big Lake Senior Center, and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Becker American Legion.
