Road projects were on the top of the agenda again at the Clearwater Township meeting last week.
The board reviewed the joint powers agreement between Silver Creek & Clearwater Twp. for 150th Street road project, with a 57.5% allocation to Clearwater Twp. and 42.5% allocation to Silver Creek Twp.
The project covers the section of 150th Street between Grover Ave. and Co. Rd. 8, which is partially a shared road between the two townships.
The board approved the agreement unanimously.
Supervisor Bill Langenbacher said he has been working with Wright County, Silver Creek and the engineer on an application to the state for a grant for the 150th Street project, which would help fund a portion of the project.
The application needs to be submitted by Dec. 1, 2017 and each party needs to pass a resolution supporting the application and road project. The board approved the resolution for submitting an application and voted to enter into an agreement for the 150th Street NW road project.
Planning for 2017-2018 road projects carried over from the month before. The board discussed the financial impact of each of the road projects.
Langenbacher said the 160th Street chip-sealing project would be a positive impact on the budget because maintenance would no longer have to gravel and chloride that stretch. It is one of the higher traffic areas and furthest from the township hall.
As part of the discussion, the board reviewed a chart provided by township treasurer Jon Bigalk showing the fund balance from October 2017 through June of 2019, with all proposed road projects being completed.
Langenbacher also said there are funds in the equipment fund and project fund totaling $144,000 that could be used if needed. Maintenance Supervisor Ludenia said he saw no equipment needs in the near future. He also said there would be minimal preparation work needed to get 160th Street, Fillmore Ave. and Evans Ave. ready to be chip sealed.
