Cw Township Okays Kennel Cup Extension

The Clearwater Township Board Monday  reviewed the conditional use permit for the Dahlberg/Beavers kennel on 140th Street and agreed to extend the permit for another three years.

Members of the board visited the kennel before Monday’s meeting and agreed there was no need to recommend revoking the permit on the six-acre site near the Clearwater River.

“From what I’ve seen it’s been cleaned up an awful lot,” said Supervisor Dan Mol. “The barking has pretty much ceased. Kennels were put around in front of the house so when the dogs are let out of the house, they don’t run away.”

Supervisor Scott Miller said the owner agreed to submit a copy of the annual a state inspection report so the township will have something on file that the kennel was up to state standards.

The board agreed to review the permit again in three years unless there are complaints before that time.

Election Judges
The board appointed the following individuals as election judges for this year’s primary and general election: Wally Westerberg, Mary Bergeron, Judy Tollefson, Jean Just, Mary Lefebvre, Kathy Williams, David Nelson, Kari Mavencamp, Ron Lashinski, Judy Lashinski,  Dave Kunkel, Jean Kurkowski, Sharon Lee, Dan Mol, Don Borgeson and Marianne Borgeson.

Spring Clean Up
Clean-up day had a lower turnout than last year. In 2015 there were about 150 participants. That number was 134 this year. Clerk Jean Just said even though there were fewer participants, there was a lot more trash and items collected this time around, including 113 electronics, 39 car tires, five tractor tires, 50 pieces of furniture and 105 appliances.

The township collected $1,693 in fees and paid out $4,122 to have the trash and items hauled away.

Mower
At clean-up day there was a sealed bid to sell the township’s old John Deere L 110 lawn mower. Four bids were received, and Supervisor Scott Miller had the highest bid at $367.10. The board approved the sale 2-0, noting there was no conflict of interest because the bids were sealed. Miller abstained from the vote.

Other Business
In other action the board
• Appointed Sharon Lee to the Clearwater Joint Planning Board for a three-year term, replacing Carol Halvorson. Other township members include John Notsch and Supervisor Scott Miller.

• Approved a temporary on-sale liquor license for the Clearwater Legion at the Clearwater Rodeo grounds July 15-16.
