Cw Township Awards 2017 Gravel Contract

The Clearwater Township Board Monday awarded the contract to supply gravel to the township in 2017 to Annandale Rock Products. The company offered a quote of $4.17 per ton for 7,000 yards of gravel compared with $5.75 per ton from Johnson Crushing & Aggregates.

The board discussed whether to take some gravel from both sources to save on trucking costs. Annandale could supply gravel to the south end of the township. Johnson, located on Co. Rd. 75 near Hasty, could supply gravel for the northern part of the township.

But the board decided the price difference wouldn’t justify using both gravel pits, and they weren’t sure whether they could get the same price if they asked for less than 7,000 yards.

Illsley Project
The board voted to send a letter to New Look Contracting regarding the completion of the Illsley Ave. construction project.

The substantial completion date was June 24, but as of Monday’s meeting, there were still punch list items to complete.

Supervisor Bill Langenbacher prepared the letter, which lists eight items that remain unfinished, including two low areas that retain water, a drainage swale that hasn’t been seeded, erosion on both sides of the road in one area, a culvert filled with sediment, a silt fence that hasn’t been maintained and a large tree stump that hasn’t been removed.

The letter says the township agrees on the total amount of the project at $196,308 and a retainage fee of $9,849.

The board agreed to hold the retainage amount and gave the contractor until Sept. 23 to resolve the issues or negotiate with the township for a final financial settlement.

Lumber Yard CUP
The board recommended approval for a conditional use permit for Tri-County Lumber to build an addition to the existing building on Co. Rd. 75. Jason Hartkopf said the addition will be constructed towards Co. Rd. 75 and will not infringe on any setback lines. The request must also go before the Clearwater Joint Planning Board on Sept. 26 because it is in the orderly annexation area.

Liquor License
The board approved a temporary liquor license for the Clearwater American Legion for an Oct. 1 event.
