County Fair Runs Through Sunday

The Sherburne County Fair got underway this week as 4-Hers brought their projects in for judging and display Tuesday afternoon.

From aerospace to wildlife management, the range of projects 4-Hers can explore is enormous and the sample of work shown at the fair demonstrates just that.

Sydney Jordan from Big Lake brought four framed samples of her photography for judging and was delighted to come away with four blue ribbons. Her subjects included her pet cat and some flowers.

Carli Vrchota had planted a French marigold in a pot, but the real project was the double pot itself, which she created and painted with bright colors.

Cloverbud Noah Griswold from Nowthen had made a cupcake minion he just couldn’t wait to eat.

“It’s been dropped in the dirt a couple of times,” said his mother. “We weren’t sure it was going to make it.”

Noah was seen eating his cake as soon as the judging was over.

Trevor Jorgenson from Zimmerman had brought his pet rabbit, Speedster, for the judging. Trevor has been a member of 4-H for about fifteen months but he is no stanger to rabbits.

“I have raised them for the past five years,” he said.

Sebastian Layer from Rogers wasn’t exhibiting anything of his own but he did enjoy a playing with a toy horse someone else had made.

Overseeing it all was 4-H leader Joe Rand and his helpers, Cindy Czupta, Elizabeth Schneider and Rachael Rostad, who are at their busiest this time of year.

“Its nice to have so many people out here,” Rand said.
