It took 23 minutes to complete the business of the Becker City Council on Tues., June 18.  Mayor Tracy Bertram and all the council members were present.

Goose Mitigation Plan

There were a number of items of interest within the consent agenda where multiple agenda items can be passed with one vote by the council.  Among the 12 items in the consent agenda was a resolution to partner with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Animal, and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services (APHIS-WS).

According to the resolution the resident Canadian Goose population at Pebble Creek Golf Course has become a nuisance, ruining turf and acting aggressively toward golfers.  APHIS-WS will control the population through capture and euthanasia.

July Fourth

The council passed a resolution to close city hall on Fri., July 5.  This will not be a paid holiday for city employees who will have to use personal time to get paid for the time off.  Many of the city employees who work at city hall had already taken the day off.

Election Judges Appointed

The city prepared itself for the upcoming Primary Elections, to be held Aug. 13, and the General Election, to be held Nov. 5, by appointing election judges.  Nine election judges and three alternatives were named.  Shannon Mortenson, City Clerk, was named Election Administrator while Deputy Clerk, Susan Nache, was named Head Election Judge.

Cannabinoid Licenses

Several businesses applied for and were granted renewal of their liquor licenses and two businesses were given Cannabinoid licenses.  Minnesota statute allows cities to issue a license to local businesses for the sale of cannabinoid products.  These products are often sold as an edible or liquid beverage.  A license was approved for the Kwik Trip being built at 12776 Rolling Ridge SE.  Another license was issued on June 4, 2024 for Tobacco Universe.

Kolbinger Park

Earlier this year, the city council approved improvements to the skate park at Kolbinger Park.  On Tuesday, the council approved a resolution to replace the other half of the park.  New play equipment will be installed later this year.
