In the 12/21/2024 edition of the Patriot, it was noted there were a couple of errors in the article regarding the Clear Lake City special (not emergency) meeting. It was brought to this reporter’s attention that the fire department was not over budget by $100,000, but rather had taken in $100,000 in additional funding outside of the budget earmarked for specific items including the firefighter pension. It was not spending in excess of the budget. It was also noted the stated number of service calls was not accurate and also not a part of the budget, as there is no budget line for calls for service.  

Finally, the workshop on January 21 mentioned in the article is to discuss funding for a fire station, not firefighter benefits.
