The Benton County 4-H Ambassadors had their Winter Retreat Jan. 18 in Foley. It was an exciting time as almost 20 of Benton County’s 4-H Ambassador’s along with their advisors Jacki Janski and volunteer Vicky Molitor, enjoyed this special event.
“I love events like the ambassador retreats”, said Marissa Kuklok, 9th grader from Foley,
“They help us get to know one another better, teach us to communicate clearer, laugh at ourselves and learn how to lead other youth.”
The day was packed with numerous leadership, team-building, and communication activities plus a time to plan for the upcoming summer. There was specific training on creating lesson plans for 4-H summer programming. The focus was on the essential elements of youth development as youth are leading programming as well as clear communication. It is important to be sure that youth feel physically and emotionally safe, that they feel a sense of belonging and self-worth, just to mention a few.
“I learned that you should be connected with the kids first.” said Lilly Ackerman, 8th grader from Sauk Rapids. “Then you can do activities and help them learn.”
The ambassadors played lots of team-building and communication activities that were both fun and even challenging.
“It was worth attending the ambassador retreat.” stated Larkin Kleine, 7th grader from Sauk Rapids. “I learned how to be an ambassador and how to problem solve.”
The Benton County 4-H Ambassadors had an opportunity to start making plans for summer. They met in groups with common interests and began putting together details of what a day camp could include.
Be sure to watch for upcoming details on 4-H Day Camps that will be held in Foley and Sauk Rapids this summer.
