Clearwater residents come out to the polls

After a day of voting, residents of the City of Clearwater and Clearwater Twp. made their voices known in the State Primary, with nearly 8% of city and nearly 14% of township registered voters coming out to the polls.

Clearwater City

In the City of Clearwater, 81 residents visited the polls in person and 40 took advantage of mail and absentee ballots, for an 11% total response.

For U.S. Senator, Jason Lewis emerged the winner for the Republicans with nearly 74% of the votes; Tina Smith led the Democrats with 91%.

In the U.S. Rep. District 6 race, Republican Tom Emmer won with nearly 83% of the votes; Tawnja Zahradka received 100% of the Democrat votes.

For State Rep. District 15B, Shane Mekeland received the top vote with 70%; 100% of the Democrat votes were cast for Ron Thiessen.

Clearwater Twp.

In Clearwater Twp., 126 residents came to the polls in person and 28 mailed in their ballots, for a nearly 17% response, reported as good for a primary election.

Jason Lewis was the clear Republican winner in the U.S. Senate race, receiving 76% of the votes; Tina Smith received 93% on the Democrat side.

In the race for U.S. Rep. District 6, Tom Emmer was again the winner for the Republicans, with over 92% of the vote, and Tawnja Zahradka won on the Democrat side with 100% of the votes.

Shane Mekeland received nearly 74% of the Republican votes in the State Rep. District 15B race; Ron Thiessen received 100% of the Democrat votes.

Wright Co. overall had a turnout of over 14%, with an estimated 11,979 voters out of 82,800 casting their ballots.
