Clearwater Legion Riders hold annual Homeless Vets Run

The Clearwater community came together for a good cause again last weekend, participating in the Clearwater Legion Riders’ Annual Homeless Vets Run.

The day began with motorcycles heading out of town at 10:30 a.m., stopping in Monticello, Zimmerman, and St. Francis before ending the run back at the Clearwater Legion Post 323, where the rest of the community joined in.

Along with a shredded pork dinner, the event included a live auction, silent auction, punch card drawing, and gun and cash prize raffle. The evening ended with a street dance featuring Stone Road Band.

This year’s auctioneer, Todd Utpadel, also entertained the crowd with his musical talent before the band came on stage.

“We provided a safe environment so everyone would feel comfortable attending,” said Legion Riders Director Tanya Olin. “Along with plexiglass guards, there was no touching or sharing of food. There were hand sanitizers located everywhere, and we provided bandanas for those who didn’t have masks.”

With the exception of the food, which was located inside the Legion, the entire event was held outside for easier social distancing and additional safety precautions, including the live and silent auctions.

“Everyone felt safe and had a great time,” said Olin. “People were excited just to be out.”

Each year the Legion Riders select three recipients for the money raised during the event, all whom provide assistance to veterans. This year’s organizations were Angel Reins Stables, St. Cloud Stand Down, and Patriot Assistance Dogs.

“This event is truly a year in the making,” said Olin. “We want to thank the community and all our sponsors for their support in making this happen.”

The Homeless Vets Run is the Legion Riders biggest event of the year. All funds raised go toward helping veterans.
