Clearview Elementary School students in first through fifth grade recently participated in the Clearwater Lions and Lionesses club annual drug awareness poster contest.
The students create their posters in art teacher Kathy Gerdts-Senger’s classes. Each student comes up with his or her own anti-drug message and then creates an illustration to convey the message on their poster. The goal of the project is to get students to stop and think about the effects of drugs and why they should avoid them.
The students’ finished posters are brought to the Clearwater Lions and Lionesses, who then select the winners from each classroom based on the posters’ message and creativity. Cash prizes are awarded to the winners.
Winners this year include first grade: first place, Izabelle B., second place, Riley B., third place, Addison C.; second grade: first place, Anabelle C., second place Maren I., third place, June S.; third grade: first place, William S., second place, Zoe L., third place, Harper P.; fourth grade: first place Elijah S., second place, Tristan T., third place, Weslie S.; fifth grade: first place, Ellen A., second place Elizabeth W., third place Cora S.
