Clearview Seeking Math Tutors

Clearview Elementary School in Clear Lake is seeking an individual interested in working with the Minnesota Math & Reading Corps – AmeriCorps Program for the coming school year, according to Principal Sheri Rutar.

The position would involve working at elementary or junior high schools in the St. Cloud area, and being trained to provide one-to-one math tutoring to students from fourth- to eighth-grade, Rutar said.
 
The AmeriCorps program is often described as the “domestic Peace Corps” in that it connects individuals with opportunities to meet local community needs.
 
Requirements for membership in the math/reading corps program include being at least 17 years of age (no upper age limit), a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident, have a high school diploma or the equivalent, and have college coursework, a degree or direct experience working with school-age children in math.
 
Full time positions offer 1,700 hours per year, part-time are 900 hours per year from August to June.  Benefits include a $484 bi-weekly living stipend, options for health insurance and child care, student loan forbearance, education awards, ($5,645 full-time, $2,822 part-time), resume-building experience and professional training and networking opportunities.
