To encourage students to read over the summer, Clearview’s Kidstop offered them the opportunity to throw a pie in the face of the program staff member of their choice.
Each student had to read at least eight hours in order to throw a pie; after that, every additional four hours gave them the chance to throw another one. Eleven students made the goal.
The excitement was palpable Aug. 16 as the chosen staff members donned plastic bags and shower caps. Students stepped up and whipped cream pies sailed towards faces amid lots of pointing and laughter, most hitting their mark.
“A lot of parents were pumped about it because it was a good motivator to read,” said Kidstop Program Manager Raquel Hoffman. “Kids were like, ‘Yes! I want to pie Raquel!’”
