Clearview Graduates Its Last Class Of Sixth Graders

Clearview Elementary graduated its last class of sixth graders Wednesday with a commencement program for students and parents.

Principal Sheri Rutar welcomed the crowed and introduced special guests Clear Lake Mayor Tim Goenner, Clearwater Mayor Pete Edmunson, and special guest speaker South Junior High Principal Jason Harris.

A representative from each sixth grade class read their sixth grade reflections, with Abby D. speaking about the nursing home visits, orchestra and Biztown, and John M. about making new friends and bus rides.

During his speech, Harris told the students they should all feel a sense of pride and accomplishment.

“Be proud of yourself and be proud of this moment,” he said. “Parents and staff should be proud, too.”

He said middle school would be full of new opportunities to explore, new hobbies and new leadership opportunities.

“For you parents it’s the time your child will seek independence and not want to be around you,” he said. “Don’t take it personal. Love them, support them, communicate with them. These are the times they need you the most.”

He challenged the students to achieve lofty goals and find ways to get involved, and told the audience educating our young people was the best way to change the world.

“I don’t know what the future holds for you,” he told the students. “But I do know you hold the future in your hands.”

After his speech, the band and orchestra each played two selections, and the diplomas were presented to the graduating sixth graders.

A slide show compiled by sixth grade teach Patti Clymer of the students’ last year at Clearview was shown, after which they filed out to What a Wonderful World.

Following the recessional the new graduates paraded through the hallways for the last time so students, teachers and staff could wish them farewell and good luck.

A reception was held following the ceremony during which attendees could view the sixth graders’ memory boards they’d created of their time at Clearview. The commencement program ended with a potluck lunch for the 42 sixth graders and their families.
