Clearview Elementary students celebrated a day of unity Wednesday, a day designed to help remind students of the importance of promoting kindness, acceptance and inclusion for everyone.
Unity Day kicked off with a parade for all students and staff during the school’s Morning Mile. Each class created a Unity Day poster that they displayed during the parade. After the parade students gathered in the gym for an assembly focused on unity and bully prevention.
Along with creating their posters, students prepared for Unity Day by practicing the school song and learning about ways they can stop bullying. Students were encouraged to wear orange as an expression of solidarity and to send the universal message that bullying is never acceptable behavior.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month, which was initiated by the PACER Center (Parent Advocacy Coalition for Educational Rights) in 2006 to unite the world to take action at the local level to prevent bullying and promote kindness, acceptance and inclusion in schools, communities and online.
One out of every five students reports being bullied. To learn more visit the National Bullying Prevention Center at Pacer.org.
