Chili Cook Off was flavorful

Over a dozen chili cooks plugged in their crock pots, interposed their unique recipes and stirred up the flavor in the Becker FD Open House Chili Cook Off Saturday.

The event was held in conjunction with the Becker FD Open House and it proved to be a good idea as mobs of people attended and made their way to the tasting centers.

Cole Steil of Steil Insurance captured third place ($50) with his concoction. Amy Stanger of Edina Realty captured second place ($75) with her delicious blend and Becker Firefighter Tanya Erickson took home the first place prize ($100) for her yummy creation.

Taste testers were allowed to sample each and every recipe and then cast a vote in the red boxes in the middle of the room. There were all types of chili brews including Mexican, white chicken, cheesy and pork.

Four hundred dollars in donations was raised in the cook off with proceeds going to the Becker Fire Dept. It was a perfect day for some warm chili and a visit to the local fire department to assail the heroes of first responders.
