The election is just 17 days away — and it’s not just important at the national level but also at the city, township, county and state levels.
This coming Thursday (Oct. 24), a “Becker Meet the Candidates” event will be held that the Becker Area Chamber is hosting. This event is for candidates to have their voices heard and allows the community to make an educated decision prior to election day.
A moderator has been chosen who will be asking the questions which will be pre-submitted by the community members. There will be a timer to make sure everything stays on schedule.
This event will be held at Becker High School TLC room. Enter Door 1 and follow signs.
The structure of this event is as follows:
• Door Open at 6:30pm;
• Start time at 7:00pm;
• Introductions of each candidate by a Becker Chamber member and thank you to community;
• Mayoral candidates, opening statement (2-3 minutes each), random draw who goes first;
• City Council candidates, opening statement (one minute each);
• School Board candidates, opening statement (one minute each);
• 5-6 questions to Mayor candidates (1-2 minutes each) and time for rebuttal;
• Two questions to city council candidates (one minute each) and time for rebuttal;
• Two questions to the school board candidates (one-minute each) and time for rebuttal;
• Closing statements, ALL candidates in order: school board, city council, mayor (two minutes each).
If candidates are unable to attend, they can have a statement read for the opening/closing statements and answers to the questions within the timeframe. The goal is to be done by 8 p.m.
All candidates will stay seated the entire time. Then organizers will provide microphones, and they will record this for those unable to attend. All candidates are asked in advance to stay on the topic of the question asked, and to be respectful of everyone.
