The Becker Public Library has a wide variety of events planned for January, including a local author visit and a “canine literary event” for kids, art classes and pre-school adventures.
Local author Gretchyn Quernemoen will speak at the Library on Mon., Jan. 12, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. She will discuss her new devotional book “Sixty-Six First Dates,” which includes a section on developing the habit of spending time with God every day. She will also take questions about her writing process and the process of publication. The presentation is designed for both teens and adults.
Preschoolers are invited to attend Preschool Sensory Play Day at the Library on Tue., Jan. 13 from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. This is a day for preschoolers to play with puzzles, Legos® and other items that involve touching, feeling and social interactions during the self-directed play time.
Students aged 12 to 18 are invited to join illustrator Gary Harbo for a class on learning to draw Manga characters (Japanese-style comic book art) at the Library on Wed., Jan. 14 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Attendance is limited and registration is required (See contact information below). This program is funded in part by a grant from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
The Library’s book club for adults will meet on Thursday, Jan. 15 from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. This month the club is reading “A Soft Place To Land” by Susan Rebecca White. For more information call the library or inquire in person at the main desk. Newcomers are always welcome.
Children aged 5 to 12 are invited to read to Elsie, a certified Reading Education Assistance Dog, at the Library on Sat., Jan. 17 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. They can enjoy the warmth, companionship and undivided attention of Elsie and her handler as they read her a story. Kids can register for a 15 to 20 minute reading session.

The Great River Regional Library (GRRL) system includes 32 public libraries in Benton, Morrison, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd and Wright Counties. It provides Central Minnesota residents with nearly 1 million books, CDs and DVDs, 250 public computers, programming and information services.
The Becker Public Library is open Mondays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each week.
