Christmas came early for local families and young children in the community center gym Saturday the Jolly Ol’ Elf from the North Pole visited Becker for the annual “Breakfast with Santa,” event.
The gym had tables set up for drawing and coloring, where children could take provided crayons and create artistic masterpieces. Food was provided by the Becker Lions and that included pancakes, eggs, sausage, milk, coffee and orange juice. While some ate, others gathered in a long line to greet Santa and Mrs. Claus when they arrived at the center atop a local fire truck.
Anxious and curious faces looked in awe when the bearded St. Nick and the missus entered the room. Many of the kids could hardly wait to get the chance to tell Santa what they want for Christmas while others were unsure about leaving the arms of their parents to the lap of the grizzled old man.
Santa tried his best to calm their fears and joyfully reminded them he would be visiting them on Christmas Eve. Kris Kringle and his little old lady posed with the youngsters while parents, grandparents and friends snapped photos as keepsakes or Christmas cards.
Besides the Lions Club, many members of the local Girl Scouts Troop volunteered to work the event by clearing tables, serving food and drink and cleaning up afterwards.
The BCC would like to thank the Becker Fire Dept. for bringing Santa over to the BCC by fire truck for a grand arrival. Thanks also to the Becker Lions for preparing and serving an awesome breakfast.
A reminder, Mrs. Claus is staying in town to participate in Saturday’s “Cooking with Mrs. Claus” event at the BCC. Mrs. Claus wants to help all the kids in the Becker area create Santa’s favorite cookies. She will also share a secret of how to guide Santa and his sleigh of reindeer to your house on Christmas Eve night!
Cooking with Mrs. Claus is for children ages 4-8 and runs from 9-10:30 a.m. Cost is $10 (members) or $15 (non-members).
