Blca Plans Winter Events

The Palmer Twp. Board discussed road maintenance Monday, upcoming Briggs Lake Chain Association (BLCA) events and variance requests.

Lake Association

The BLCA’s Winter Train Parade will be held Dec. 7. Everyone is invited.

Supervisor Stephen Demeules informed the board the BLCA is planning another Winter Ice Day celebration this year, date to come. A Winter Game Night will be held at the town hall, date also to come.

The BLCA voted to remove the grate at the dam; the DNR informed them earlier it needed to be taken out because it restricts the water flow.

Data collected during high water events will be used in the next stage of water stabilization.

Road Maintenance

Because of the early frost, the decision was made to stop work on the 54th Street project; it will start up again first thing in the spring.

The dry well has been replaced at 42nd and 124th.

Clerk Kelly McCann will send a letter to the 42nd Street property owner informing him that the post that was placed in the township’s right of way needs to be removed.

A motion carried approving partial payment for the Cedar Point improvements project.

New Business

Terry Jenson approached the board with a request for a preliminary and final simple plat. He is breaking off 21.9 acres from his 74 acre property. It has already been sold.

After a discussion on the latest plat, including the layout, topography and approaches, the board saw no problems with the request and a motion carried to send favorable comments to the county.

Craig and Brenda Murphy approached the board to request two variances for their 100th Ave. property. They’re building a new home, new well and new septic system.

The house is old with numerous additions built and needs to be replaced. Because of the size and layout of the property and neighboring properties, a variance for a 60’ setback from the ordinary high water level and one for 11’ for the new septic are required.

After reviewing the plat and layout, the board saw no problems with the requests and a motion carried to approve both and send favorable comments to the county.

Other Business

McCann informed the board the new website is coming along well.

There was no sheriff’s report or fire and rescue report available at the time of the meeting.

The next Palmer Twp. Meeting will be Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.
