There was school spirit aplenty at the 20215 Homecoming pep rally at Becker High School Thursday afternoon, culminating in the coronation of a new set of royals to reign over the festivities for the remainder of the weekend.
Band director Craig Vogl had his musicians set the tone as students and staff entered the auditorium, playing “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and the Twisted Sister classic “We’re Not Gonna Take It, Anymore”. The rally audience and the band then performed a rousing rendition of the school fight song “Onward Becker!”
Activities Director David Niemi began the program by introducing all of the available team captains in extra-curricular sports teams, and he asked students involved in the fall musical or any other activity to stand in place and be recognized by their fellow students. Head football coach Dwight Lundeen then spoke about the Becker team and the season so far before introducing the team captains to the audience.
After that, BHS Asst. Principal Mark Kolbinger served as the emcee as the 12 royalty candidates made their way to the stage under the glow of spotlights in the darkened auditorium, providing a brief history of each candidate as they took their place on the stage.
Breaking with tradition, the 12 royalty candidates took to the stage in the BHS Performing Arts Center for a choreographed song-and-dance number that delighted the packed house.
Once the dancing was done, the crowns were quickly placed on the heads of the candidates who had been chosen by the vote of their peers this week. Very shortly, King Jackson Lefebvre, Queen Jenna Lutz, Prince Jorge Lomeli and Princess Hannah Schmidt were modeling the hardware and posing for pictures on the stage of the PAC before a horde of family-and-friends-turned-paparazzi. Members of the royal court include Alexa Hanowski, Morgan Youngdahl, Abby Morrell, Kaylene Kruse, Jake Fobbe, Beau Pauly, Keith Sorenson and Dawson Pittman.
A program note expressed the thanks of the BHS Student Council to Mestad’s of St. Cloud for their generous donation of tuxedos, and to the BHS administrators and staff for making Homecoming Week possible.
