Benton 4-Hers “light up” residents in Foley for Christmas

The Benton County 4-H Ambassadors were super excited to make plans this winter to bring happiness to people in their communities.

The ambassadors decided that they would like to decorate the large courtyard at the Gardens in Foley with holiday lights. By decorating the center courtyard, residents with a courtyard view, those eating their meals and residents in the assisted living units are all able to view the lights.

“Decorating the nursing home was a good experience because even though we couldn’t see the resident’s reactions, we know that they truly appreciated it during these times,” said 4-H Ambassador Travis Boyle of Foley.

“Decorating the nursing home was a good representation of what the Benton County Ambassadors are about and that’s making the community a better place and more inviting. It is important to me, because I know that I did something to brightening up their experience there and made them feel like they matter to the community.”

The youth worked hard to put lights on the trees, brought in several fake trees covered with lights, an inflatable snowman and even a giant heart against the bird feeder. The youth laughed as they fought to get the lights to “light up” and smiled as residents watched out the windows wondering what they were all up to.

The ambassadors plan to leave the lights shining bright through March.
