“We are already looking ahead and planning for an exciting start to the 2015-2016 school year,” said Dr. Christine Glomski, principal at the Becker Intermediate School.
Those plans include starting the fall term with two “assessment/conference days” for students and families in both the Primary and Intermediate schools in Becker. Each student will have a scheduled one- to two-hour time slot during which they will attend their school with a parent or guardian on either Tues., Sept. 8 or Wed., Sept. 9, Glomski said.
During this time, students will meet their new teacher and tour their classroom; read and complete a reading assessment with the classroom teacher; take part in a phonics assessment with staff; have their school photo taken; participate in a hearing and vision screening (third- and fifth-grade students); take care of “housekeeping” business (emergency forms, lunch accounts, headphones, etc.); tour the building and become familiar with staff; learn more about the expectations for their new grade level, and discover more about the iPad® registration process (fifth-graders).
The program gives teachers a chance to learn about students on an individual basis, and it also provides time for the staff to gather assessment data needed to address the individual learning needs of each student. “We strongly believe this day helps staff, students, and families start the year off positively,” Glomski said.
Beginning Mon., Aug. 17 at 8 a.m., families will have the opportunity to schedule a conference time on-line. Parents will be able to access the conference schedule through their Skyward Family Web Access. Conferences are available at the following times and locations:
Primary School Schedule: Tue., Sept. 8, 11:30 a.m. - 7p.m. and Wed., Sept. 9, 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
