Becker voters went to the polls Tuesday to vote on two school district levy referendums.
The first question was asking voters to renew an existing levy as well as increase the amount of that levy.
Nine hundred and seventy-three people voted “yes” and 689 voted “no”. The question passed.
The second question was asking voters to replace an existing levy that is set to expire after 10 years because it is a replacement of a levy already in place property taxes would not go up if it passes. The money generated from this levy pays for student technology in the district.
One thousand and 13 people voted “yes” while 647 voted “no”. Question two passed.
With the passing of question #1, property taxes would increase by about $40 a year for a home valued at $200,000.
“Becker schools will be able to maintain the high quality of education and continue to offer programs that make it such a great school system with minimal impact on the tax payers,” said resident Diane Koubsky.
“Thank you to everyone who came out to vote today,” said Becker Schools Supt. Jeremy Schmidt. “It is no coincidence Becker Public School District is one of the best in the region.”
Schmidt said the support of the community has a direct link to the success of the school district.
“The school buildings and what takes place within their walls are and should be the pride of the community,” he said. “The staff and schools are used to provide the best education in Sherburne County. At the same time we also work together to meet the needs of the community.”
Schmidt says there are a variety of community events that take place within the school buildings along with various competitions, tournaments, games, performances, etc. that help to bring visitors to the wonderful City of Becker.
“I encourage community members and businesses to reach out to the school if they would like to know more about how we can continue to improve the opportunities we provide our children,” he said. “The school and community go hand-in-hand and are always stronger together. Thank you again to everyone who voted. Way to go Becker!”
