Becker Girl Scouts and NHSDA host food drive

The Becker Girl Scout Troop 281 and the National Honor Society of Dance Arts (NHSDA) students from Starz Dance Studio have teamed up for the holiday season to collect food shelf items around the community. The girls decorated cardboard boxes that will be placed in various businesses around the community, including the Becker Community Center, Marvel Nutrition, Los Ortizes, and Starz Dance Studio.

The drive started November 1 and will continue through December 9. According to the girl scouts, canned and boxed items are best for donations.

“Stuff that doesn’t need to be in a fridge,” Girl Scout Hanna helpfully suggested.

When asked why they decided to host a food drive, the girls had lots of excellent answers.

“We want to give back to the community,” said Girl Scout Cheyenne. “We get so much [from the community.]”

Girl Scout Elizabeth added that, “If people are homeless or can’t buy food, we want to help them.”

“We want to help people who can’t afford it,” Girl Scout Lena agreed.

Girl Scout Alivia added that she, along with other junior members, were using the project to help earn their bronze award in the scouts.

After the drive is over, the girls will make their donation to the food shelf in late December or early January.

Girl Scout Ellyyana wished to add that the girls of 281 are working hard to help the community, and they love their troop leaders, Amber and Lynn.
