JOHN AND DAWN REISINGER had their house get struck by lightning earlier this week and the damage was significant. In the photo top left, it was clear the house got hit as parts of the soffits and fascia showed signs of charring and burn marks.
The Reisinger’s exterior outlet on the back of the house exploded and left burn marks on the siding and outlet panel.
More damage was seen from one end of the house to the lightning left burn marks in its wake.

Becker Couple Experiences Lightning Strike To Home

This week’s storms produced high winds, tornado warnings and watches and excessive flooding in some areas of the state.

In Becker, numerous people reported trees knocked down, power outages and lightning strikes. One such family was the Reisingers on 68th Street.

“We had our house get hit on one end by our satellite,” said homeowner John. “The siding was charred and the soffits and fascias have burn marks on them.”

John and his wife, Dawn, were at home Tuesday evening when the storms rolled in. They ended up losing power and when the storm culminated — John and Dawn surveyed the damage.

“We have an outlet cover on the back of the house and that was blown out,” John said.

John says he is sure where the strike happened and can see where the lightning traveled from one end of the house to the other. He even assumes the strike skipped from the house to the garden shed, since he noticed the doors blown off and damage to some items inside.

“My stereo inside got fried,” he said.

The Reisingers did the right thing and called 911, because after the strike, they noticed a plume of smoke and thought maybe the house caught fire. That didn’t prove to be the case, however.

“We want to thank the Becker Fire Dept. and Sherburne County Sheriff’s Dept. for coming out and assessing the damage and making sure we were okay,” said John.

The Reisingers took photos and are in the process of dealing with their insurance company.

“It was quite an ordeal, John said. “I’m just glad it wasn’t any worse.”

There were no other reports of property damage other than downed trees in the Clearwater area.
