Becker City to demolish and rebuild cold storage building

Mayor Tracy Bertram and Becky Stanfield-Olmscheid were absent from the July 2, 2024 Becker City Council meeting.

During the meeting, the council approved a resolution to demolish and rebuild the cold storage building that stands east of 11956 Gardner Street.  Estimates and bids were taken for the repair of the building, however, as the process advanced, it was determined that demolition and a rebuild would be the best option.  The council authorized the Public Works department to accept the low bids from Lincoln Builders and Wruck Companies for the demolition and rebuild.   The cost of the project should not exceed $140,000 plus a 10% contingency.

Firefighters Honored

Two Firefighters were honored at the May 20, 2024 Fire Board Meeting.  Fire Chief Doug Kolbinger commended Firefighters Owen Gosset and Terry Foradory.  Gosset and Foradory were at a friend’s house when a neighbor called for help.  The two men answered that call and saved a child from choking.

Anniversaries

Council member Rick Hendrickson announced the 13 city employees who were celebrating anniversaries with the city this July.  Those recognized spanned all departments.

Jeremy Halvorson, from the Water Department, celebrates 27 years and Dhani Adler at the BCC was recognized for her 11 years of employment with the city.  Officers Mike Gordon and Preston Voigt both are celebrating three years with the Becker Police.  Public works celebrates five employees – Rodger Bellinger, Jr. (nine years), Cory Buettgen and Chad Claassen (six years), Ryan Peckskamp (five years) and Mike Smith (one year).  Becker’s Finance Director Mark Ebensteiner has three years with the city and Jacob Sanders, Community Development Director, five years.  Patti Zabinski celebrates six years and Charlie Dominick has completed his first year of employment with the city at Pebble Creek.
