Backpack Buddies Pack Meals For Becker Students

Backpack Buddies’ mission is to reduce the effects of childhood hunger by providing nutritious, easy- to- prepare meals over the weekends to children in food-insecure homes in the Becker area. The idea is to close the huger gap that currently exists and to raise awareness that this problem really does exist in the Becker community.

On Oct. 24, we as a community did just that. As a community we packed over 2,800 meals for students in the Becker Public School System.  Through the partnership of local businesses, places of worship and community groups we were able to make a difference in our community. We as a board for this program wanted to extend a special thank you to all of the volunteers to unload the trailer of food, those that came to pack the meals and all of the organizations that decided to give of their time and resources to help hungry kids.

This year the Becker Backpack program will serve 209 meals per week to students in each of the buildings in our Becker Schools. Though we are saddened to see that number we are grateful for the outpouring of support for the support of each person in the community who helps make this program a reality. We especially wanted to say thank you to the Becker School Administrators and Staff as well as T.J. Potter Trucking for their support in making the mass packing event possible.
