Much loved Minnesota author, Mary Casanova, and her dog, Nellie, visited first and second graders at the Becker Public School’s PAC Mon., April 18.
Casanova shared experiences and information about being a writer. She even shared that one of her most famous books, One-Dog Canoe, was revised 32 times!
Nellie the dog sang to the students right before second graders helped Casanova bring One-Dog Canoe to life, in a puppet show.
Casanova reminded students to “write what you know” and if you don’t know, then research. She also encouraged students to appeal to the five senses as much as possible, when writing for an audience.
Casanova has authored over 40 books for children, teens and adults.
Her visit was made possible through the Great River Regional Library Minnesota Arts & Cultural Heritage Program.
A special thank you goes out to Jeannette Burkhardt, from Becker’s GRRL branch, for sharing this opportunity with our students.
