Four former Bulldog athletes have been announced as winners of this year’s GEL Scholarships, in memory of the late Jerry Lindbom.
They are Allison Hendrickson, Alex Stanz, Ethan Holm and Matt Krenz.
The scholarships, in the amount of $500, have been presented to the four student athletes by Anita Lindbom in honor of her late husband.
Allison Hendrickson
During her childhood years, Allison had a limited idea of what she wanted to be when she grew up. As middle school commenced, certain classes she was taking exposed her to college and career readiness and she began exploring her options.
Leading up to graduation in 2018, Hendrickson realized she wanted a career involving health and children and she found that career goal in occupational therapy at Winona State University.
“After my first year attending Winona State, my aspirations for an O.T. degree solidified,” she said. “I plan on continuing to get my undergrad in movement science with a minor in psychology.”
Hendrickson says she will also explore the possibility of minoring in child advocacy studies.
“After Winona, I’ll attend graduate school to complete a masters degree in O.T.” she says. “I will also be running D2 cross country and track for WSU for all four undergrad years.”
Hendrickson said that since about 10th grade, she’s had the goal of becoming an All-American runner in college and she is striving to reach that goal now.
“My college goals can be summed up as completing both my degree and athletic career with stand-out performances,” she said. “Something to show how one’s hard work and dedication pays off.”
Allison is the daughter of Kimberly and Lowell Hendrickson.
Alex Stanz
Alex Stanz is a graduate of BHS in 2018. He is currently attending Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD, where he is pursuing degrees in business administration and finance.
He is also on the golf team for the Vikings.
“During my freshman year, I competed in all nine events and averaged a 79.8 score,” he said. “My low round was a 71.”
Currently, Stanz is working at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker for the summer and has a side-job as an on-site administrator for the Junior PGA of Minnesota.
“My aspiration is to pursue a career in the golf industry once I complete my college education.”
Alex is the son of David and Chris Stanz.
Ethan Holm
As a Becker High School student, Ethan was involved in the student council for four years, the National Honors Society for three years, basketball for 3.5 years and track & field for four years. He was a captain (track & field) and a three-time letter winner in track.
Holm is currently attending the University of Sioux Falls and is a heptathlete and decathlete on the Cougars track team.
“I would like to follow in the footsteps of past athletes of the U of SF by leaving a mark on campus by achieving a school record in the decathalon or the heptathlon during my time here,” he said. “Academically, I am a biology major with goals of going to graduate school to pursue medicine.”
Holm hopes to find a job in the fields of anesthesiology and orthopedic surgery.
Ethan’s parents are Jon and Nikki Holm.
Matt Krenz
Krenz is a 2018 BHS graduate and will be entering his sophomore year at Augsburg University in Minneapolis this fall.
Krenz has always enjoyed sports ever since he was a little boy. He has played baseball since he was four years old and started playing football at the age of six.
“The all american sport of baseball is my all-time favorite sport,” he says.
Krenz was the captain of the varsity baseball team during his junior and senior years at Becker. He received all-conference honorable mention his junior year and all-conference his senior year.
“I was also honored to receive the “most dedicated” award my junior year and “MVP” award my senior year,” said Krenz.
Krenz is continuing his passion for the sport of baseball by playing catcher for the Auggies and is majoring in business management. He hopes to someday manage and lead a large company and be successful.
“I believe that my leadership skills will help me do this,” he said. “Someday, I hope to coach youth baseball teams to continue to share my love of baseball with others.”
Matt is the son of Kevin and Julie Krenz.
