The Becker High School speech team had a great season culminating with three competitors advancing to the state competition this weekend at Wayzata.
Sophomore Aria Webster will compete in Prose Interpretation at state; junior Micah Roetman will compete in Extemporaneous Speaking and senior Michelle Johnson will compete in Extemporaneous Speaking.
Each received a Section 7AA medal after competing in Elk River March 30.
Other section finalists include Bella Pettit (fifth) and Abbie Halvorson (eighth) in Prose; Raina Schmidt (sixth) in Great Speeches; Austin Clemen (fifth) in Informative and Susan Lee (fourth) in Drama.
Webster’s speech in Elk River was Fat is Contagious by Kimberly Brittingham. Other schools in 7AA competing were Elk River, Cambridge-Isanti, Duluth East, Princeton, Hermantown, Duluth Denfield, Chisago Lakes and Zimmerman.
Webster, Roetman and Johnson will contend Saturday in Wayzata with round one beginning at 10:15 a.m. The championship round for all events commences at 3:30 p.m. Awards are at 5:30 p.m.
