This week, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz testified before the House Oversight Committee. While he struggled to answer basic questions about his failed agenda, we made sure we held his feet to the fire.
Tim Walz says Minnesota is not a sanctuary state, but the policies he and the radicals in his party have advanced over the past few years tell a different story.
In May of 2023, Tim Walz signed the Health and Human Services Omnibus Bill into law. This legislation expanded MinnesotaCare to provide free healthcare to illegal immigrants. Also in May of 2023, Tim Walz signed the Higher Education Omnibus Bill into law. That bill allowed illegal immigrants to have their college tuition paid for by the state. Finally, he signed the Driver’s License for All Act into law in March of 2023, which allows illegal aliens to receive driver’s licenses.
Furthermore, his Attorney General issued a legal opinion directing local law enforcement to ignore Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers of illegal immigrants. When we asked him if he agreed with this guidance, he failed to answer.
He claims Minnesota is not a sanctuary state, yet he has rolled out the red carpet for illegal immigrants, supported policies that prevent ICE from doing their jobs and has made our state a magnet for dangerous criminals. If Tim Walz doesn’t think that makes Minnesota a sanctuary state, he shouldn’t be our governor.
