With it being the middle of August that means the start of the NFL season. Preseason has already gotten underway and the Minnesota Vikings have currently played one game and it ended in a loss. However, don’t lose hope Vikings fans, it’s just the preseason that doesn’t count for anything other than time for the team to get ready for the regular season.
They took on the Las Vegas Raiders on the road and lost by a touchdown. They were without quarterback Kirk Cousins who was out due to a positive COVID test, but he probably wouldn’t have played anyway since it’s so early and they wouldn’t want to risk injury.
With the start of a new season comes all sorts of excitement and it seems like Vikings fans are always excited no matter what the outcome of the previous season. I have many friends who are diehard Vikings fans and whenever they post on social media about being at the game in person, it seems like an absolute blast. I hope to make it to a game someday especially at the beautiful US Bank Stadium.
I haven’t heard much about this year’s team other than Cousin’s still being quarterback along with returning members Dalvin Cook, Adam Thielen, and Justin Jefferson. Don’t worry, I understand and like football, I just haven’t had the chance to see if I’m actually able to stream their games. I hope to change that this season as well as hoping the Vikings have a successful season.
It seems like the Vikings do have a promising outlook, and yes, they lost their first game of preseason but remember preseason is basically practice. It’s for players to get some gametime without it adversely affecting their points for the regular season. Every major league has a preseason of some kind and they’re all similar.
Looking at the stats from their first game, something they are going to have to look out for is getting penalized. They had over twice the amount of penalty yards than the Raiders did. They’ll have to watch out for that as the season goes on and whether it’s because of mistakes or dumb moves, they have to fix it.
Their next opponent the San Francisco 49ers won their first game of the preseason and will be looking to keep that streak going when they take on the Vikings. On the other hand, the Vikings will be wanting to get a win so they can figure out good things about their game to hold onto. While preseason isn’t important when it comes to standings, it is important for the team to bond and also carry the momentum of a win with them. Despite it not having any significance, a win is a win.
Since they’ve just gotten underway and nothing crucial has happened just yet, we’ll keep this preseason update short. Hopefully the next time I update on the Vikings, it’ll be for a crazy winning streak during the regular season and this may be a very big longshot but hopefully on their way to their first ever Super Bowl victory. Yeah, it may seem like a long way away but there’s always hope even if it’s small and with this team’s past history, hope isn’t a bad thing.
