To The Editor

Dec. 5, 2017 at the executive session of the Becker City Council meeting, there was a discussion regarding fully funding the golf course CIP as it was an enterprise fund and it should pay for itself.

This led to a discussion on moving the golf course to a special fund from an enterprise fund so it could be funded like all other departments. It was decided that was a discussion for a later date.

Later that evening, “Funding of the golf course was again discussed with it stated councils have been afraid to fund it in the past as it was set up as an enterprise fund and should be self-sustaining.

It was cautioned there were many people who voted for the former mayor at the last election because of his views on the golf course; council should consider this before taking action on moving it to a special fund. It was stated there could be many reasons why people voted for the former mayor, however council should not let those votes keep them from doing what was right.”

The golf course discussion was again tabled for the future. How dare this council disenfranchise the people who voted for the former mayor. What arrogant power do they have?

What will they say or do next time when they have to rule against the people who voted for the current mayor? This is pure arrogance. Two sitting council persons will be up for election in November 2018. We will be watching to see how they vote and manage our tax dollars.
