To The Editor

May we never meet.

The Sherburne County Attorney’s Office and Victim Services provides help to victims of crime. The folks that we work with are not defined by gender, color of their skin not the amount of their pay check. You see, crime is indiscriminate. It can affect you and your family regardless of where you live. It can be physical or financial or both. It can impact the young and old. Criminals prey on all and they do not care if you cannot afford the lost time, the lost security or the physical loss.

April 19-25, 2015 is National Crime Victim’s Rights Week. This year the theme is to Engage Communities and Empower Victims. As a community, it is the simplest things that can assist. Keep an eye on your neighbors and report anything suspicious to law enforcement.

If you know a person who has been a victim of a crime, ask them how they are and offer a cup of coffee while you listen. Contact your local law enforcement agency-they have a significant number of ways to deter crime. Come to the courthouse. There are silhouettes on display honoring those who have lost their lives to domestic violence. Think, care, and be proactive.

If you are a victim of crime, you will not be alone. Our office will walk you though the process, ensure your voice is heard in the courtroom and help you find resources. We work with our partners in the community-law enforcement-probation-domestic abuse agencies- Health and Human Services.

We seek to empower victims. If you are the victim of a crime, we will be here to serve you but may we never meet.
