To The Editor

It appears the political arena has become a contest of winners and losers. The primary objective is to get re-elected to office. I'm suggesting that issues all be contested with factual evidence and government objectives have outcomes where the majority of the public is the winner. Is that too much to ask?

Today's focus appears to be on getting three votes on any issue that the office holder happens to personally favor, without regard to what the public wants. A basic difference between running a successful business and government, is that a successful business must include profit margins of "dollars and cents", yes there is a money trail that must be followed. Less obvious, is the successful business person that follows the "hollars and sense" trail. This aspect, could have an even bigger impact on their business, because it influences the money trail significantly. Whether we know it or not, most successful business persons follow both paths. They listen to their customers, whether it be conversation, or with their pocket-book. Customers know the truth and their actions will always be consistent with their beliefs.

Government is obviously not compelled to make a profit, and now it appears they are choosing not to not listen to what the public has to say. Violating both rules of good business practices, will surely lead to failure and ultimately disaster. Although government isn't compelled to follow good financial business practices (profit margins etc.) they should at least be held accountable for managing our affairs within the parameters of what the public desires.
