To The Editor

I attended a meeting last week and the discussion included several “eye sores” around our town and they likely exist. I suggest that it may be time for the city to take a good shower and shave, and maybe put a new suit or a new dress on our city. Without question we must acknowledge that we have failed to adequately address the issues for nearly a decade. Without question we must acknowledge that we have failed to adequately address the issues for nearly a decade. We as a city have gotten ourselves into our current situation. Becker hasn’t relocated or moved and it is not too late to take advantage of our largest tax payer before it goes away.

Yes the future of Becker depends on an economic resource that is slowly disappearing and most citizens are aware of upcoming major changes occurring in the energy field. We are not sure how energy will be produced or marketed in the future, but we do know that environmental concerns and pressure, will force changes, so let’s plan aheadand not be blind-sided in the next decade or so, when it’s too late.

My view of the meetings that I have attended were frequently focused on negatives rather than finding solutions. It appears counter-productive to spend time on censures or finding fault with the person sitting next to you. It would be more productive to take a pro-active approach that could change the atmosphere in our community. We’re in this thing together and we need to respect each other’s opinion, even if we don’t always agree with their viewpoint.

We have good people in this community and I challenge our leaders to step up to the plate and at least hit a single, even if a home-run is out of the question. Every game isn’t won with a home run and doing nothing will certainly end up as it has without progress as has been the case for nearly a decade.
