To The Editor

To all those who volunteer, thank you for making a difference!

The Volunteer Bridge is an alliance of 34 member organizations serving Sherburne County. Volunteer Bridge is designed for those who are responsible for recruiting and supporting volunteers, and provides members with a variety of resources.

National Volunteer Week is April 10-16 this year. While we treasure our volunteers all year through, we take this opportunity to recognize all the benefits they bring to our organizations.  As the Points of Light Foundation, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service, wrote: this week “is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities.  (The week) is about taking action and encouraging individuals and their respective communities to (demonstrate) their collective power to make a difference.”

Volunteering has positive benefits for the volunteer as well as for the person or community served.  Volunteers bring their enthusiasm, insight, compassion and unselfish caring, (added a comma) and in return, they receive a sense of fulfillment, connection, and community.

Thank you also to The Sherburne County Citizen!  In the spirit of volunteer service, this newspaper routinely and year around donates space to publish a variety of current needs for volunteers that are submitted by The Volunteer Bridge.  Watch for the RSVP/Volunteer Bridge logo to find out how you can help.
