To The Editor

Parents, be aggressive, proactive and ask many questions when it comes to your children’s caregivers.

I have worked in a local childcare center for 16 years. I am leaving this week. It has been one of the hardest decisions I have ever made.

The situation that drove me to this decision needs to be made known. Question concerning this? Ask me.

I was working and was attached by a coworker. We were in a room with children, I was holding a child and I had be back to the coworker when she grabbed my arm and hollered at me. When I told my director what happened she said, “so what do you want to do about it today?” This coworker was not suspended for her aggressive behavior. She was not even sent home for the day. In fact, my director made it clear that this coworker would continue to be employed there. I filed a report with Becker Police, as I was concerned for the children’s safety. The police were helpful, but didn’t get the truth out to the parents. I believe parents have the right to know when these situations happen so they can make informed decisions as to the care of their children and whether or not they will continue to get care here.

Children are most precious and we have a responsibility to protect them. So when it comes to child endangerment and neglect, what would you do? Forgive yes, take chances? No.
