As a former hockey player and coach, I have seen first-hand the impact that involvement in sports can have on young people. It’s not just about the thrill of the game or winning a trophy. It’s about the lessons young athletes learn along the way; discipline, hard work, and the importance of setting a goal and seeing it through.
Unfortunately, over the last few years, a dangerous and concerning pattern has emerged. Democrats, beholden to the most radical-left activists in their party, have turned what was once a clear playing field for female athletes, and turn it into a political minefield. What has always been an opportunity for young women to thrive and compete has been clouded by the radical left’s idea of “inclusion.”
This week, House Republicans took a stand for common sense and female athletes nationwide by passing the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. This legislation protects female athletes’ safety and ensures equal access to opportunity by prohibiting biological males from participating in female sports. Sadly, more than 200 Democrats voted against it, including all of our Democrat colleagues from Minnesota.
Allowing biological men to compete against women endangers safety, steals championships, and disregards fairness. While Democrats continue to cater to the most radical in their party, Republicans will continue to be the party of common sense.
