Letters To The Editor

TO THE EDITOR:

Federal budget cuts have left Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge with very few staff, leaving just one biologist in charge of 50,000 acres visited by 150,000 people a year. If you’ve ever managed or restored habitat for deer hunting, you know one person can’t take care of 78 square miles. The consequences are clear: Friends of Sherburne says there will be fewer events, activities, services, and even some areas will be closed. Hunters, hikers, student groups, and us locals who rely on this important area will quickly notice these unwise cuts. Here’s how you can help: Contact your federal representatives — Sen. Klobuchar, Sen. Smith, and likely Rep. Emmer — and tell them these cuts are hurting your experience at the refuge. Spread the word by asking two friends or family members to do the same. Finally, join Friends of the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge to help support and volunteer. Our refuge needs your help now more than ever.
