TO THE EDITOR:
My congratulations go out to Coach Lundeen on the well-deserved honor recently given him by Becker Schools. His accomplishments are many and impressive. I also want to tell people about the people for whom Eppard Field was named, as many people have no idea. Bill and Beppie Eppard were an important part of our Becker schools for decades. Beppie was a school cook for many years, preparing meals “from scratch” and baking bread and cookies every day. Bill was the custodian for generations! He kept the school clean, painted and varnished every summer, mowed the lawn, shoveled snow and kept coal in the boiler all winter. In his spare time, he flooded and maintained a large skating rink. He helped kids with their skates whenever needed. They were both devoted and kind to every student, even the more challenging ones. Bill and Beppie didn’t receive many awards or accolades, just did their jobs every day the best they could. But they are still remembered by many with the greatest respect and admiration.
