Letters To The Editor

TO THE EDITOR:

Momma Bear or “domestic terrorist?”  Cassie Fredregill, a Little Falls’ mother of a 10-year-old girl, contacted the teacher at ISD 482 to confirm that sexting would be taught, as her daughter shared.  Cassie found the topic inappropriate for minors.  The teacher suggested she contact the school social worker who would teach the class.  There was no reply from the social worker.  Two weeks later the principal responded – photo of two videos.  She asked the superintendent about the curriculum — clearly within her parental rights.  In an email, the superintendent responded that a question about a lesson plan amounted to challenging the teacher’s integrity.  Furthermore, Cassie could not contact the teacher, social worker, or administrative staff for the rest of the year, not even attend her daughter’s parent-teacher conference.  At the school board meeting on March 13, she outlined her interactions with the district.  The board did not address her issues at the meeting.  Many questions remain. What was taught in that class?  Not to be disclosed.  Cassie’s daughter did homework in the office.  The students were forbidden to discuss the class with anyone.  Have Cassie’s children suffered retaliation?  Yes, her 10-year-old daughter was held from recess and segregated from other class activities; her five-year-old son was accused of a malicious act; her teenage daughter’s teachers have called her mother names. Why did the superintendent choose to escalate the situation by accusing the mother of attacking the teacher’s integrity?  Maybe someone should confront him?  Is there a backstory?  Cassie spoke at a December school board meeting about the lack of support for a vulnerable middle schooler that was assaulted in the bathroom. Cover-up of a crime?  Last November Cassie ran for a position on the school board.  Cassie Fredregill is Minnesota’s Momma Grizzly!
