Letter to Editor

TO THE EDITOR:

We turn on the tv at night just to see another city on fire in response to a police shooting.  We see the defund the police movement and BLM. But it is all misses the mark on what the real solution to the problem is. In fact, both of these movements do the complete opposite, they create division in the country not unity.  Neither one will solve the issue because they are not addressing the issue.  The real problem is lack of respect and unwillingness to comply.  Go back and look at all the videos of the police shooting this year or even pervious years — they have a common theme, no compliance by the subject.  Society quickly wants to hold officers accountable for their actions but we also need to hold the subjects accountable for theirs. So where do we go from here? How do we solve this?  First, as a society we need to restore the respect and confidence in the police. These brave men and woman put their lives on the line every day, we must not forget that. Second, we need to restore the value of family, there are far too many kids that grow up without dads or moms. The third thing that needs to happen is there needs to be a greater emphasis on education. I could write a whole book on the importance of education, but for the sake of keeping it short, education is the spring board for success for individuals, communities and societies.   We as a community, state and country need change the narrative, not tear it down but build it up.
