Letter to Editor

TO THE EDITOR:

The January 30th editorial page was a lot of hyperbole & conflating of issues beginning with contributing writer Penny Leuthard commentary on censorship. As I see her commentary there are two central themes. The first is misrepresenting what censorship is and is not. Cable news outlets & social media companies have a bias, and it is to the individual to seek a more complete story. The prohibiting of or the suppression of opposing views across the whole social media and news spectrum is censorship. When news outlets & social media channels select content, they are creating viewership. In short, it is a money grab, not censorship.

The second Equal Opportunity Laws, the EEOC essentially supports the 1964 Civil Rights Act. A decision to support a specific politician and policies is a choice. In broad terms this choice differs from your choice of religious beliefs, protected by the 1964 Civil Rights Act. If your reputation does not reflect an organization’s mission, vision or work culture they can choose not to employ you. Please do not conflate the two, its disingenuous & dismissive of marginalized groups.
