If Adam Were President

I was thinking, how would Adam (from the Bible) have conducted himself if God had named him mayor, governor or president of the Garden of Eden? Let’s pretend Adam and Eve are the president and first lady and a man named Walt is the keeper of the garden. Imagine Adam behind his desk on his first day on the job, giving his state of the garden speech.

“We have something in the midst of our community (tree) that some consider good and some consider evil. I have first-hand knowledge that it is mainly bad and so I propose we get rid of the tree for all intents and purposes.”

“But the tree is also good for the community,” said one of the President’s aides. “It has the knowledge of good as well as evil and can be a benefit to those who live here.”

“Well I say the tree is nothing but trouble for all of us and is too costly to have around,” President Adam says. “I think Walt is doing a terrible job of taking care of the garden and thus say we should get rid of him as well as the tree.”

The constituents who live in the garden and are in support of the trees and Walt’s quality of work stay mostly quiet while the ones who hate the trees rally with pitchforks and torches to have Walt removed and the tree removed or pruned.

President Adam uses his level of authority to publicly bash the garden and focusses all his job efforts to parlay his dissatisfaction of the garden and Walt. All the while, the rest of the world that previously viewed the Garden of Eden as a paradise and utopia, are suddenly seeing the community with an ugly blemish to its reputation.

If I was living in the garden with Adam as my leader, I would demand he start advocating for the garden and its qualities rather than casting a blanket of pessimism to the community.

I would demand he promote the garden for all its worthiness and the effort Walt takes to keep it its opulence. Remember, the garden has many trees including the tree of life, a distinction worth championing. Though the garden and tree may have a sour taste in his mouth, President Adam should be doing all he can to support and cultivate rather than hinder and thwart the entire neighborhood.

It was once stated that the Garden of Eden was the world’s best kept secret. Well the secret’s out and the snake and his minions are winning.
